For many years we have volunteered our time to many causes ranging from soup kitchens to church youth groups. As we planned for retirement we could not think of anything better than to retool ourselves to volunteer our time and money in new ways as we became older. We started our Alpaca business in 1998 as a way to leave the corporate jobs behind with their long hours and stress loads.
Now that we are enjoying our goal of a better lifestyle, we love raising alpacas and donating 20% of the proceeds of our sales to projects in third world countries. Two of our current projects are supporting an orphanage in India run by The Quiet Hour and drilling community wells in Mozambique, Africa through Maranatha International.
Ruthie also is a part-time Nursing Instructor for Walla Walla University and coordinates medical volunteers for short-term (2-3 week) mission trips throughout the world.
Daryl coordinates volunteer representatives in the U.S. who make church presentations challenging people to get involved in mission projects. We also go on 2-3 short-term mission trips ourselves each year.
Daryl also is Secretary/Treasure for Quechua Benefit-a non-profit alpaca owners’ Mission in the Andes.
