The Alpaca Registry

The Alpaca Registry was developed in 1988 as a breed registry to maintain the value of alpaca bloodstock. The registry is a state of the art and highly sophisticated system to document bloodlines. Each alpaca is blood-typed prior to registration. Alpaca crias (babies) cannot be registered unless their dam and sire are also registered and dam and sire are proven by a blood test. Alpaca owners receive a certificate for each animal that they own that documents it’s bloodlines and serves as evidence of ownership.

The value of this registry is essential for the future of the alpaca industry. Buyers should always insist on reviewing a Certificate of Registration for any alpaca they are considering for purchase or breeding services.
